How To Change Your Air Filter

An essential component of your air conditioner is the air filtration system. Air filters are often disregarded, even though they play an important role in one’s health. The air contains a number of particles that might be harmful for your day-to-day activities. Because of this, it is recommended that you change your air filter monthly. However, when replacing your air filter, it is important to know how many air filters you have at home as well as the size of your air filters. The size you need should be in your HVAC system’s manual, but you can also check with the manufacturer.

First Things First

Before you can change your air filter, you must first purchase the replacement filter. Because of all the many choices of filters, it can be overwhelming. The easiest way to choose your air filter is to remove the current one and take it to your nearest hardware store. Ask a customer service rep to help you find a replacement so you are sure to get the correct size. The hardstore clerk can help you make an informed decision. Once you have completed this task, you are ready to replace the air filter. Below are the steps to get your filtration system back on line!

Steps To Changing The Filter

Follow these steps carefully to change your filter:

  1. Turn the thermostat off.
  2. Open the filter grill and remove the old filter.
  3. Clean the area with a vacuum cleaner to remove excess dirt and debris, then a piece of cloth to ensure all the dirt is removed.
  4. Make sure you read the instructions and the sign at the sides of the air filter. Usually manufacturers will put airflow indication on the side of the filter so the user will know what to do and how to replace it.
  5. Put the bottom of the filter at the bottom of the duct and push the top in, and make sure it’s tight on the base so it won’t fall off.
  6. Close the filter grill, push the fasteners back in and you’re back in business!

Air filters are mostly overlooked because they are out of sight. Be sure to change the air filters at the recommended time from the manufacturer, whether it be monthly or every few months.
