Home Maintenance Checklist

Home Maintenance for Springtime

Springtime is traditionally the time when most people perform some home maintenance tasks. While many people limit their spring cleaning to organization and basic home tidying, your cleaning should include inspecting your HVAC system and prepping it for summer. At Romano Brothers, we believe in empowering our customers to handle basic maintenance projects on their own. That’s why we’ve put these tips together to help you keep your unit working strong.

Getting Down To Basics

It may be a good idea for you to start inside and work your way out. This means that the HVAC ducts should be inspected looking for mold, tears and holes, and how much dust there is in them. If there is too much damage then an HVAC professional should be called. The filters should be looked at and possibly changed out. Walls and ceilings should be inspected for cracks, possibly slated for repairs. Plugs and switches should be tested to make sure that they all work, and replaced if necessary. Even the floors should be looked at, with an eye for cracks and rot.

On To The Roof

The roof can create a number of problems for all the systems literally below it, from allowing too much heat to escape to letting too much water in. As such the insulation should be checked and the roof inspected for loose or missing tiles. You should also be looking for rotting areas that need to be replaced and infestations of pests such as silverfish; these should be taken care of as quickly as possible. This applies just as well to the basement if one is present. Keep in mind to check out the ducts and other openings as well in order to make sure that they are not blocked and are working as they should.

What About the Outside

The weather stripping should be looked at to make sure it is not cracked or losing its flexibility. Doors should be checked for damage and to make sure that the door handles are not too loose. They should also be looked at for to make sure that they are fitting tight against the jam. Windows need to inspected to make sure that their weather stripping is good and that they are not letting too much heat escape. The gutters should also be cleaned and inspected for holes, possibly being replaced if they have too many holes in them. Also check the AC unit outside to make sure it is working fine.

With all of these tips, your home maintenance can be a breeze. If you need some assistance, contact Romano Brothers today.
